Days remain to pre-order the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 8 models, and without change, we may see a set sell out for the first time in a while.
It's been a busy 24 hours for one set in the BrickLink Designer Program. Unless stock is allocated further in the last two days of crowdfunding for Series 8, it's looking likely that Dustmark Keep will reach the maximum sets funded.
We haven't seen such an outcome since the stock reallocation strategy was implemented. However, despite official warnings otherwise, there's little reason to worry about the stock of Dustmark Keep running out.
There's no doubt that Dustmark Keep is by far the most popular of the five models in Series 8. The latest sales numbers for the series reveal that Dustmark Keep has been pre-ordered 32,550 times, out of an expanded maximum of 35,000 times. This data comes from the source code of the BrickLink Designer Program website.
| Series 8 set | Price | Maximum allocation | Number pre-ordered | Estimated value of pre-orders |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dustmark Keep | £319.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 | 35,000 | 32,550 | £10.4m / $11.3m / €11.3m |
| University of Science | £329.99 / $359.99 / €359.99 | 30,000 | 20,151 | £6.6m / $7.2m / €7.2m |
| Brick Railroad Locomotive | £109.99 / $119.99 / €119.99 | 30,000 | 22,200 | £2.4m / $2.6m / €2.6m |
| Coconut Cape | £189.99 / $209.99 / €209.99 | 30,000 | 22,500 | £4.2m / $4.7m / €4.7m |
| Hot Air Balloon | £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99 | 30,000 | 18,600 | £1.3m / $1.5m / €1.5m |
It hasn't been long since our last report on these numbers, but as the crowdfunding draws to a close, the demand for Dustmark Keep is increasing. Within the past day, nearly another 1,000 copies of Dustmark Keep have been pre-ordered.
100 were pre-ordered over the course of a single hour earlier today, as we have been eagerly tracking the progress. At this rate, it is likely to hit the 35,000 copies before crowdfunding is due to close on June 18.
However, don't get too concerned by these sales numbers; 5,000 copies of another model have already been allocated once to make up for the demand of Dustmark Keep. The data reveals that there is enough room to do so again, since the Hot Air Balloon looks to be stagnant at 18,600 copies crowdfunded.
For comparison, Series 7 reallocated stock to the point that three sets were at over 35,000 copies funded. BrickLink's latest Instagram story warns that there are 'only a few left' for all five sets, and that they're selling fast. The latter is certainly true, but there's still more than enough copies of each build to go around.
This is all assuming that stock is reallocated for more copies of Dustmark Keep in the first place. There may be no further reallocations, and the Castle creation would therefore reach 35,000 copies and sell out.
There is likely to be a surge in demand closer to the end of crowdfunding, no matter what, so it's best to pre-order the sets that you want from Series 8 while you still can.
